Things to do in Germany in 15 Days
This travel guide includes the best places to visit during your 15 days journey through Germany:
Day 1 and 2: Things to do in Berlin
Unsurprisingly, the first city on the list is Germany’s capital: Berlin. I recommend dedicating two days to this city, as it holds a wealth of history, having served as the capital of the former Kingdom of Prussia, the German Reich, the Weimar Republic, and the Third Reich.
Berlin is a must-visit on your trip to Germany. It is a cosmopolitan city, a premier cultural and artistic hub in Europe, and the most populous city in Central Europe.
Key attractions include the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, and the city hall, among many other points of interest.
Day 3 and 4: Things to do in Hamburg
The second stop is Hamburg, an internationally renowned city in northern Germany, officially known as the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
Hamburg is Germany’s second-largest city and the seventh-largest in the European Union. Its history and the stunning Elbphilharmonie concert hall make it well worth visiting.
Day 5 and 6: Things to do in Cologne
Cologne is one of Germany’s most famous cities, renowned for its stunning cathedral located near the Rhine River. With a history spanning over 2,000 years, the city was founded in 38 BC and later conquered by the Romans.
Today, Cologne is a significant cultural and economic center in Germany, hosting the famous Cologne Carnival.
Note: This is a must-see destination for your 15-day trip to Germany.
Day 7: Things to do in Mainz
Mainz, or Maguncia in Spanish, is one of my favorite German cities. It embodies the quintessential German charm with its architecture, history, and atmosphere.
Interestingly, Mainz is the birthplace of Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press in the 15th century.
Note: During the Middle Ages, Mainz was a major ecclesiastical site, reflected in landmarks like St. Stephen’s Church and the Mainz Cathedral.
Day 8: Things to do in Heidelberg
On the eighth day, visit the charming city of Heidelberg and its dreamy hilltop castle. Heidelberg is one of Germany’s most popular destinations, boasting unique architecture, breathtaking views, and a lively student atmosphere.
Day 9: Things to do in Stuttgart
Stuttgart is a must-visit city and a gateway to the famous Black Forest, a dense woodland. The city features two castles: the New Palace (Neues Schloss) and the Old Castle (Altes Schloss).
The Old Castle dates back to the 10th century, while the New Palace served as a royal residence in the 18th and 19th centuries. Both were rebuilt after being destroyed during World War II.
Day 10: Things to do in Konstanz
Konstanz, located by the lake of the same name, sits at the border of Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. Known for its excellent quality of life, Konstanz boasts one of Germany’s cleanest lakes, offering stunning views of the Swiss Alps and local vineyards.
Note: This is another must-visit destination on your German adventure.
Day 11 and 12: Things to Do in Munich
Munich is one of Germany’s most iconic cities, famous for its Oktoberfest beer festival, traditional Bavarian attire, and cultural richness. Plan to spend two days exploring its museums, historic buildings, parks, world-class football stadium, and more.
Munich was entirely rebuilt after World War II, with great effort by the local government.
Day 13 and 14: Things to do in Nuremberg
One of my favorite cities in Bavaria is Nuremberg, located along the Pegnitz River. Declared an imperial city during the Holy Roman Empire, it features a beautiful old town protected by medieval fortress walls.
Nuremberg was historically significant as the site of the emperors’ first Reichstag or Imperial Diet. Its charming atmosphere makes it a standout destination.
Day 15: Things to do in Dresden
Finally, end your 15 day trip in Dresden, renowned as one of Germany’s most beautiful cities. Known as the “Florence of the Elbe,” Dresden is strategically located between Berlin and Prague.
Heavily bombed during World War II, much of Dresden has been reconstructed, although remnants of its wartime destruction remain visible.
Dresden has regained its popularity among tourists and is now a top destination in the region.
Note: Dresden is a must-see stop on your 15 days journey through the Federal Republic of Germany.
Enjoy your 15 days trip through Germany!
